UK employment rate at record high before lockdown

United kingdom employment was at a history high in the a few months to February, just before the effects of the coronavirus lockdown started to strike the overall economy.

Official figures showed 76.6% of persons aged 16 to 64 were in compensated perform, up from 76.4% in the prior quarter.

Unemployment was estimated at 4%, somewhat larger than the previous quarter, the Business office for Countrywide Data (ONS) reported.

Pay in February continued to grow faster than inflation.

David Freeman, ONS head of labour current market studies, mentioned: “Our last information wholly from just before the coronavirus limits ended up in location, confirmed the labour current market was very sturdy in the 3 months to February.”
