O2 and Virgin Media in talks to merge

Mobile operator O2 may perhaps be established to merge with broadband large Virgin Media to create one of the country’s biggest leisure and telecoms corporations.

A tie-up concerning two major players in Britain’s telecoms and media sector would make a major rival to BT.

Spanish firm Telefonica, which owns O2, verified that it was in talks with Virgin-proprietor Liberty World.

The company stressed that the negotiations were ongoing and there was no assure they would reach a offer.
