Oil large Equinor has deserted controversial strategies to drill in the Good Australian Bight in a shift hailed by environmentalists as a “massive win”.

The Norwegian agency was granted acceptance past December to start exploratory drills in seas off South Australia.

But on Tuesday it informed regulators the strategy was “not commercially aggressive” compared to other solutions.

Australia’s authorities stated the withdrawal was disappointing.
