Colombia coca crop: Trump tells Duque to resume spraying

Colombia will have to resume aerial spraying to ruin coca crops, US President Donald Trump has mentioned.

Mr Trump built the remarks at a joint push meeting with Colombian President Ivan Duque in Washington.

Colombia is the world’s largest producer of cocaine, when the US is the world’s major purchaser.

Aerial spraying of crops was suspended in 2015 right after a courtroom dominated that the herbicide utilised – glyphosate – could cause cancer and pollute land.

“Effectively, you’re going to have to spray. If you you should not spray, you happen to be not likely to get rid of them. So you have to spray, with regard to the prescription drugs in Colombia,” the US president explained to Mr Duque.

Mr Duque mentioned that the country would “combine all the options readily available” in order to combat the problem, like the guide destruction of crops.
